8 Easy Tips For Working While Traveling
If you love to travel, then working online is ideal right now. You can literally go anywhere and work as long as you have wifi. With today’s technology, you can get an internet connection almost anywhere you go. When I’m traveling, sometimes it’s tough to focus on work when you just want to go play with your kids at the beach so here are my 8 easy tips for working while traveling.
When I’m traveling, it’s easy to push things aside and say you will do them later but then it typically never gets done. The best thing to do is to plan ahead by scheduling when you are going to work. I tend to do best by waking up early and getting it out of the day.
The best thing about working online is that you get to do it when it fits into your schedule. When traveling with family, I don’t want to be working while the rest of the family is out having fun. There’s no point in even going if that’s the case. So I try to avoid multi-tasking by working early in the morning or during my daughter’s nap time so we can have fun the rest of the day.
Focus When It’s Time To Work
I have planned ahead and scheduled to wake up early to get some work done then end up catching myself on Facebook for 30 minutes just wasting time. That is 30 minutes just wasted when I could have been working and now I’m behind schedule. Once you plan ahead, then make sure to focus on the work so you can take advantage of the time.
Have Some Coffee
I don’t know about you, but I work much better when I have a cup of coffee to sip on. I like to use a thermos mug because it will stay hot for way longer than a normal coffee mug. Since I’m a slow drinker, my coffee gets cold half way through so I like the coffee thermos mug instead. The caffeine wakes me up and keeps me alert as well.
When traveling, you never know when something can go wrong so I always try to be as prepared as possible. The hotel wifi could go out or you could lose power, etc. All this has happened to me but it’s best to think about what could go wrong and try to be prepared to deal with it.
Avoid Last Minute Work
If you don’t plan out your work, then you could be forced to do some last minute work and that is not ideal. So many things could go wrong and you may not be able to complete your work in time. This goes back to being prepared and planning ahead. Sometimes you can’t avoid the last minute work but if you’re prepared enough then you can handle it.
Have the Right Gear
It’s important to have the right equipment to be able to work and travel together. You have to understand that wifi may go out and laptops can break so having a back-up plan is always good to have.
When you are traveling, take full advantage of it. And travel often! So many people only get to travel less than 2 weeks a year because they are tied to a desk. If you are lucky enough to work online, then take advantage and travel every place you can!
